EL ORUCO

Jose Ramos "El Oruco" was raised with the grandchildren of the great maestro of Gyspy flamenco dance, "El Farruco", inheriting from the Farruco dynasty the force and temperament that characterizes their baile. He continued his training with the great bailaor Sevillano "El Torombo", with whom he now regularly shares the stage. Today he continues to study and perform with his mentor and childhood friend, Juan Manuel Fernndez Montoya, known familiarly to the world as "Farruquito". He is also a dedicated teacher in his own right and has led flamenco dance workshops all over the world, including his sold out master classes in New York City this past summer of 2009.

 An amazing festero in the tradition of Miguel Funi, Anzonini and Paco Valdepeñas. He specializes in "baile casero", a grassroots form that emphasizes humor, expressiveness and rhythmic play over technique.
This is a great opportunity for anyone from total beginners to the more advanced, those who want to take their first introduction to flamenco dance as well as those seasoned dance students wanting to add some soniquete to their step. First Hour: Technique
She will run students through a series of strengthening drills in footwork designed to improve agility, strength and accents. She will then focus on the body with marcajes, hand and arm exercises; always stressing the importance of proper body alignment and naturalness in form.
Second Hour: Choreography Seguiriya
You will learn the marcajes for two letras, one llamada, a remate and a short escobilla. Considered the grandfather of flamenco, this palo is essential to anyone's true understanding of Flamenco. This class is designed to de-mystify this incredible palo. Students will learn the rhythms and be exposed to several cante letras in order to better understand this wonderful palo.

 A seasoned teacher of Gypsy flamenco dance, one of the most sought after in Sevilla as well as internationally, Concha Vargas will teach in
SAN JOSE, SAN FRANCISCO and
BERKELEY
Based in the "al golpe" rhythm of Lebrija. The Bulerias Romance is a form that draws from the Alborea, exclusive to Gypsy weddings, and from the Romance. The Bulerias Romance is typical of the Gypsy flamenco families of Utrera and Lebrija. Miguel Funi, Pepa de Benito and Ines Bacan are all known for their singing of this form.
